I am Christina Veselak, owner of Garden Gate Counseling and The Academy for Addiction and Mental Health Nutrition. I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) specializing in individual counseling, and Mental Health Nutrition. I maintain a private practice in Southeast Denver, CO.
With over 30 years experience as a clinician, I am currently serving as private practitioner working with a broad spectrum of clients. Among my areas of expertise are relapse prevention for chronic relapsers, chronic pain and illness, life struggles, mental health nutrition and addiction treatment. I provide training and supervision of interns and clinicians wishing to integrate nutritional awareness into their practices. I also work with Dr. Beth Ballen in the Colorado Recovery Infusion Center where we use IV amino acid therapy for drug and alcohol detox and to address issues such as major depression, ADHD and anxiety. (Click here to learn more about amino acid therapy on my website.)
In addition, I present at national conferences and to general audiences on topics ranging from Nutrition and Brain Chemistry, Hypoglycemia, Adrenal Fatigue in Addicted Families, and Integrating Nutritional Strategies into a Private Practice. I have also taught Basic Counseling Skills and Nutrition and Brain Chemistry at the Denver School of Hypnotherapy. I currently teach two on-line courses in biochemical and nutritional approaches to mental health and addiction recovery for The Academy for Addiction and Mental Health Nutrition.
I graduated from San Francisco State University in 1983 with a MS in Counseling Psychology. I was licensed in California as a Marriage and Family Therapist in 1985 and have subsequently been licensed in Alaska and Colorado. I am also trained in the field of addiction, EMDR therapy, hypnosis, and somatic psychotherapy through the Sensorimotor Institute. I keep up with the latest developments in the field of psychotherapy and am committed to continuously learning and growing as a psychotherapist and mental health nutritionist.
Integrative Nutrition Consultation
I graduated from the American Health Science University in 1993 as a Certified Nutritionist. Since then, I have studied with the top people in this field, including Julia Ross, Joan Mathews Larson, Dr. Hyla Cass and Dr. Charles Gant.
As a Mental Health Nutritionist, I specialize in nutritional approaches to emotional well-being and addiction recovery. I have extensive experience using amino acid therapy and other crucial nutrients to quickly and effectively reduce symptoms and causes of anxiety, depression, insomnia and violence. I successfully use these methods along with addressing hypoglycemia, to reduce cravings, post acute withdrawal symptoms and relapse in clients with chemical dependency and process addictions. I have extensively studied western herbal medicine, and am very familiar with herbal approaches to mental health issues. Our nutritional work together would never take the place of necessary medical treatment and I do not diagnose or treat medical conditions other than those emotional or mental disorders covered by my licensure in the State of Colorado as a Marriage and Family Therapist.
I am the found of Academy for Addiction and Mental Health Nutrition. I train professionals from a variety of backgrounds in Mental Health and Addiction Recovery Nutrition. My courses can be taken through Nanp (National Association Of Nutritional Professionals) as CEUs or can be taken directly through the Academy. I provide certification in both fundamental and advanced Mental Health Nutrition. Please Visit My course page to learn more.
I am also a founding member and former Executive Director of The Alliance for Addiction Solutions, a non-profit organization which promotes the use of nutritional and other natural modalities in addiction treatment. I am the Community Liason and present national trainings. I also coordinate quarterly meetings of the local Denver chapter of the Alliance
I believe that many of our struggles as adults come from painful childhood and adult experiences, as well as unmet developmental needs. Sometimes we did not learn the communication and life management skills we need to succeed as adults, and sometimes we learned to behave in ways that hurt us as adults.
Therefore, I work in many different ways with my clients, depending upon what is needed. Sometimes, therapy can be very brief, with issues resolving within a few weeks, and sometimes we need to approach healing in a layered way, over several years. I use psychodynamic approaches, cognitive behavioral techniques, spiritual support and inner child work as needed.
My goal is to provide my clients with a set of tools with which you can continue your own healing and cope with life effectively outside the therapy session, and after therapy is over. My job is to empower you to create a rich, vibrant life, worth living.
I myself have used all the approaches above in my own healing process. This journey of self-exploration, transformation, spiritual growth and physical healing has been the most exciting and rewarding of my life and I invite you to join me as we each continue to grow.
